November meeting

We're meeting Sunday, Nov. 11, at 7pm. The location is Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea, 112 Campbell Avenue in downtown Roanoke.

We haven't met as a real group yet, so the agenda largely is still to get to know one another. Everyone is welcome.

November meetup

Date: Sunday, Nov. 11 @ 7pm (or possibly Friday, Nov. 16...we'll decide soon!)

For November, let's meet at Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea, in downtown Roanoke. I don't know how big the place is, so maybe we'll pick another location if we get lots of people RSVP-ing.

A number of topics have come up as I've spoken with group members, via email or meeting in person, relevant to the emerging-church situation in Roanoke. For this meetup, I'd like to discuss:

1. How useful the label "Emergent/emerging" is in this area
2. How we can help one another find communities of faith where we can be comfortable
3. What exactly we want this group to be/become

In talking with various folks, I get the sense that there's a lot of passion and creativity about the topic of "doing church" in this area, but that just about everyone is frustrated with the state of things as they relate to moving the church forward. If you've ever felt like you didn't have anyone else who shares your frustration, believe me, this is the group for you! Seriously, I can't wait to get everyone into a good discussion with one another.

Please RSVP so that we know whether we need to warn Mill Mountain Coffee that we're coming.

First meeting!

I've been living in Roanoke now for almost two whole weeks. I've left my house to get a driver's licence and to go to Kroger. Other than that, haven't gotten out much. I'm hoping to meet some folks.

To that end, we're having our first meeting. The only agenda is to get to know those who have expressed an interest in emerging-church topics. Ironically, the meeting will be at our house. (Really, I do want to get out and see the area...)

If you're interested in coming, drop me an email or leave a comment. All are welcome--for this meeting, even kids are encouraged to come. (We'd love to convert your entire family to emerging-church apostasy. Short of that, they can jump on the trampoline and eat a hot dog.)

In the future, we also hope to schedule some coffee-shop-type meetings. (Does anyone remember the quote about coffee shops in "Good Will Hunting"? Ha...caramels...I love that...)
